"!BIOGRAPHY: Nicholas Smith, Jr.,From "Sketches of Church History in North Carolina.";1892; Halifax County, N. Carolina, "Nicholas Smith, Jr. came to North Carolina about 1718 and settled on the Moratock River (The Roanoke), in what is now Halifax County. He had a grant of land ten miles square starting at some point near Pollock's Ferry and running down the river ten miles, then out to Scotland Neck, and included about half of the present town of that name. The family worshipped in Kehukee Chapel, on Chapel Run, which was standing in ruin as late as 1795. Nicholas Smith, Jr. was buried in a clump of bushes about a mile from the headquarters house on one of his plantations, together with a number of his children and relations. There is no way of identifying the graves, no tombstones to tell who they were except that they were Smith's. He married and had two children - James and Arthur.", In the Hall of History at Raleigh, N.
