"!The will of Arthur Smith was dated February 7, 1789, and probated in Halifax in May, 1789. In it he mentions the following persons: His wife Ann Smith, his daughter Molly Hogun, his son Drew Smith, his son Arthur Smith, his daughter Martha Smith, his son Robert Ruffin Smith, his daughter Ann Bennett Smith, his son William R. Smith. He named his friends James Smith, Marmaduke Norfleet and Drew Smith executors of his estate. Arthur Smith and Anne Ruffin had sons named Robert Ruffin Smith and William Ruffin Smith, one named for his Grandfather Robert Ruffin and the other named for his uncle William Ruffin. "The first four or five volumes of the Colonial Records of North Carolina would show whether the Bennetts, Ruffins, or Smiths rendered distinguished services to the Colony. I am positive the Smiths did not, though wealthy and prominent in social life." Author unknown. She asked Drew Smith, Robert R. Smith and William R. Smith to care for the land devised by her to her son Arthur Smith's four children - Drew, David, Arthur and Richard Smith. Drew Smith, Robert R.
